The population is 14.804.116.Historically known as Constantinople.In the history istanbul had been capital of several countries.These countries with chronological order was ; Roman Empire(330-395) , Byzantine Empire(395-1204)(1261-1453) , Latin Empire (1204-1261) , Ottoman Empire (1453-1922). After the Ottoman Empire , Turkey has Istanbul but not as a Capital.Istanbul’s position on the Silk Road, rail networks to Europe , and the only sea route the Black sea and the Mediterranean have produced a cosmopolitan populace.
